FINLAND: 5 € 2013 provincial buildings, the Åland Islands, Sälskär Lighthouse

Far out at sea, in the strait between Åland and Sweden, lies the Sälskär lighthouse. It was lit for the first time in 1868, when the island was inhabited by a lighthouse keeper and lighthouse guards with their families. The lighthouse, one of the most beautiful in the Baltic, illuminated the voyage of seafarers in the hard-tonavigate strait through which people voyage to new adventures or return home.
