Sophie Mannerheim dedicated her life to helping children

The life work of Sophie Mannerheim is an inspiration to all who value nursing and caring. Mannerheim, with her empathic nature and resolute spirit, left the idle life of an aristocratic lady behind and began studying nursing. This bold decision would have a tremendous impact on Finnish health care.

During her career, Mannerheim modernised Finnish nursing training, and was also a leading figure when the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Children's Castle were established. In 2013, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of her birth. The Mint of Finland is joining the celebration by issuing a collector coin in her honour; the coin is designed by Petri Lounas, and it depicts Sophie Mannerheim's love for children, and her desire to focus on the future.

Sales of the collector coin dedicated to Sophie Mannerheim will commence on 2 April 2013.
